CT Hyrogen-Fuel Cell Coalition

"Green" Vehicle Technology Expo and Workshop

The Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc. (CCAT) held a Hydrogen Codes and Standards Workshop on May 15, 2008 in coordination with the Connecticut Building Officials Association. The Codes and Standards Workshop was attended by over sixty local building officials, municipal officials, academic institutions and industry representatives. Carl Rivkin of the National Renewable Energy Laboratory presented the Department of Energy’s perspective and activities on codes and standards development. Doug Rode, Principal and Managing Director of Hydrogen Safety, LLC, presented a Hydrogen Codes and Standards Reference Guide developed under contract for CCAT. Joel Rinebold, Director of Energy Initiatives at the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology, Inc. presented information on stationary fuel cells, market conditions, and the current and future deployment of hydrogen and fuel cell technology in the state of Connecticut. In addition, a panel discussion took place with members including: Larry Moulthrop (Proton Energy Systems), Bill Collins (UTC Power), Tom Harrison and Bill Murphy (Praxair), and Joseph Kingston (Connecticut Office of the State Fire Marshal).

The workshop provided information on hydrogen and fuel cell codes and standards as they relate to stationary fuel cell applications and hydrogen refueling. Participants were provided with an overview of current Connecticut codes and standards, future codes and standards as identified in the Reference Guide. In addition, participants were given the opportunity to ask the panel members questions regarding the specific application of fuel cells and hydrogen technology.
