The ConnecticutCenter for Advanced Technology Inc. (CCAT) in cooperation with the Connecticut Hydrogen-Fuel Cell Coalition (CHFCC), the California Fuel Cell Partnership, the National Hydrogen Association, and the U.S. Department of Energy held the national Hydrogen Road Tour 2008. The event was held at CCAT on August 12, 2008. The tour featured ten vehicles traveling across the U.S. from Portland, Maine to Santa Monica, California. The tour featured 33 stops through 19 states, with three of those stops in Connecticut including East Hartford, South Windsor, and Wallingford. The tour demonstrated progress and commitment toward commercially viable, emissions-free hydrogen vehicles. Passenger vehicles and transit buses powered by hydrogen will help promote America’s energy independence, reduce greenhouse gas emissions, and improve air quality while preserving safety and U.S. jobs.
The event provided invited guests, the public and media with the first hands-on ride and drive experience of the tour. The East Hartford venue featured displays by the CHFCC and other hydrogen and fuel cell technologies/industry representatives.
Remarks were given by Elliot Ginsberg (President and CEO of CCAT), Catherine Dunwoody (California Fuel Cell Partnership), Melody A. Currey (Town of East Hartford), Cheryl McQueary (U.S. DOT RITA Deputy Administrator), Lt. Governor Michael Fedele, Donald E. Williams (Senate President Pro Tempore), and Joan McDonald (CT DECD Commissioner). Other special guests included Congressman John B. Larson and members of Connecticut’s state legislature.
